How much should you tip when your stylist doesn't charge you?

I got my hair cut a month and a half ago and the stylist said I could come back when the color fades, no charge. I could also get my bangs trimmed at no charge. Last time, his assistant colored and washed my hair and I gave her a $10 tip. The stylist mixed the color, cut my hair, and blow dried it and I gave him a $25 tip.

I guess I'll still give the assistant the same amount ($10) but since the stylist is only cutting my bangs this time, I have no idea how much to tip him. (He regularly charges $95 for a hair cut if that helps). THANKS! =]

If you can, base it on how much a cut would cost. If you don't have that information, base it on the time spent. If it takes about 1 hour - maybe your stylist is retarted - then give her more than a 10 minute job. I wouldn't go less than $10 though.

I would say $5 since that will only take a minute or two of his time %26amp; he DID say he would do it for free.

I wouldn't know as I cant afford to go to hair stylist. How much is it worth to you.

You have an idea of how much he would have charged for this service so tip him accordingly.

The normal tip i imagine for such a pricey service is probably above average but that's for you to decide.

Good luck

15 to 20% of what the haircut would cost. So about 18 to 20 would be a good tip if he was doing your whole hair or coloring it. If it's just the bangs, maybe just 10 to 15 dollars.
