Like you shouldn't have it altered to what you want.

You ask for something specific for a reason, not for something different.

Good question, my mom has been cutting hair for 22 years and she NEVER cuts anything that the customer doesn't want cut. If I were you, I would go ahead and go to my usual stylist for a trim. If you want to save a little money, have her just wash and cut it instead of drying it and styling it afterwards. Going to someone other than a trusted stylist could get your hair cut off instead of trimmed.

stylists often think they know what's best for your hair. they are professionals, after all. if you have a particular amount of hair you are prepared to lose in a trim or cut, ask for or take a small comb that has a 6 inch ruler on it (they sell them at beauty supply stores and drugstores) and physically show them where you'd like your hair to fall - and repeat it (maybe several times)...if they don't listen and you don't love what they do for your hair in general, find another stylist. the key is to ask for referrals...if you see someone on the street with amazing locks, ask them who does their hair?

i am not sure about the hair cuttery. i know that sometimes new beauty school grads work at large chains, but just because a stylist is new doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing - they just have less practical experience. good luck!

I don't know, I really don't. I had the same stylist for about two years, and the past two times I have went I have told her to just cut the ends off, because I am trying to grow it out and there she goes..chop chop and there's all my hair growth, on the floor! This annoyed me so much that I started to trim my hair myself, I found an article in Seventeen magazine about how to trim the ends of yourself awhile back and saved it. When it gets to the length I want, I am going to look for people with nice hair and ask them where they get theirs done and see if I can get referred to a stylist that will listen to me. lol

Never asked for a trim or cut !!

just tell or show them the hair style you wish for in a book is best

never mention cut just say you wish for the syle this way if they don't tell you they must cut they cannot charge you for the cut nor trim.

if mentioned you pay

now always ask for pricing before they begin or they do tend to over charge.

if they cut or trim and charge you for it deny the charge dont be afraid

also record or make sure you never mentioned a cut or trim to play back that will shock the sylist.

always asked why the charge is so very steep!

use your cell phone to record you and her conversation and play back in front of others they shall laugh and agree with you

this is called smart client knowledge!!

Always pay for only what you want and demand that you they are exacting in their service tell them to always ask for your permission before doing any thing.

Yikes! In my career I have never really seen very much of that. I have seen miscommunication occasionally. A stylist can offer an opinion, but it is your final decision. Any stylist will tell you it is the same amount of work for a trim as a cut when done properly. Some of my clients come to me for the big cuts and have one of my assistants trim for maintenance to help with cost. Nothing worse than a bad hair cut!
