My stylist said that the stuff in the box stains your hair and that if something were to go wrong you would have to cut it out cause they wouldn't be able to correct it. Is this true?

No, it is not true that the color will not be able to be corrected. Just about anything can be fixed, however as the first answerer stated, it will be expensive. There are some "do it yourself" color products that are VERY hard to correct.

There are very few color corrective technicians in the field of cosmetology. You have to really know what you are doing...but you'll pay big bucks for color correction. To answer your question...it is not true...it CAN be corrected. What is true is that the box color does stain and only holds minimal amount of peroxide legal for the home users. This amount can't lift the color present and deposit the color you want. That is why most of the time you'll get a brassy tone. Best solution is to stick with the professionals with at least five years experience in the color area!
