Should I perm my hair now and cut it later or cut it now and perm it later?

I want to get my hair layered before I start college in August. The problem is that I have very thick hair. The last time I got it permed was in March. Now it is nappy and hard to comb. When my new growth starts to come in my hair draws up and looks shorter than it really is. I want my hair to look nice and fresh when I go to school. So should I let the stylist perm it first so she can see my hair naturally (without any kinks and long like it really is) or should I let her cut now and get it permed before school starts. I'm not sure what to do because I don't know how my hair will look if I get it cut now, especially since it doesn't look as long as it really is. Please Help.

god. i'm going through the same exact thing that you are going through, but i have decided to cut it first and then perm it later because it costs waaaaaaaaaaaaay less. stylists charge you on how much hair they have to perm so if you have less hair, it will cost a lot less. also, what would be the point of perming it then having the stylist cut it all off ?

idk, that is just my point of view :)

p.s. - what kind of perm are you getting and do you like it ?

you should tell your stylist, but i say cut first, perm later.

cut then perm

IDK but maybe less hair = less money?

You should cut it first then perm, because the part you permed is going to be cut off anyway. =]

cut and perm

Well...what should truely happen is the stylist should perm your hair and then while it is still wet give a cut to go with your hair type and the type of curl that you got from your perm.....If you get your hair cut it will kink up your pre-existing perm more but it also could give it a fresher look....you can always get a "trim" now and see how that works and if it sucks then right before school go get your new perm and get it cut/styled right after.

perm now, cut later
